Scholarly
Interests:
My scholarship focuses on adolescent health (defined
as ages 10-21) with a particular interest in health
risk behaviors (substance abuse and high-risk alcohol
consumption, violence, physical inactivity, intentional
and unintentional injury, and sexual risk-taking),
and subjective well-being (self-perceptions of life
satisfaction, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL).
Researching adolescent quality of life (QOL) is valuable
in assessing youth holistically in health behavior
assessment, program implementation, and evaluation
efforts. Rather than focusing on youth deficiencies,
my research attempts to highlight the positive assets
in youth, which can then be incorporated into the design
and evaluation of school-community prevention and intervention
efforts.
