Curriculum scholar to visit Feb. 6
Michael Apple, an internationally known curriculum scholar, will be presenting a public lecture at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the auditorium of the Miami University Art Museum. His talk will be titled: “Educating the ‘Right’ Way: Markets, Standards, God, and Inequality.”
Apple, the John Bascom Endowed Professor of Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will also visit an advanced doctoral seminar in curriculum theory offered by Roland Coloma (educational leadership). Coloma has offered to allow faculty and graduate students to attend the seminar, to be held from 1-1:50 p.m. Feb. 6, as space permits. For more information, contact Colona at colomars@muohio.edu.
Apple, who also teaches at the University of London, has published a number of classic texts in educational studies, including Ideology and Curriculum, Power and Education, Teachers and Texts, Official Knowledge, and Educating the Right Way.
