Reconnecting alums to Miami

Beth Sims
When Beth Sims began her duties this summer as development director for the School of Education, Health and Society (EHS), she quickly discovered that alumni share her excitement about the direction the school is taking.
As Sims works to help alums reconnect with their alma mater, she has found several EHS initiatives to be of particular interest.
EHS priorities on enhancing diversity and supporting technology are seen by many alumni as critical for preparing Miami students for successful futures and a changing work environment, says Sims. The educational implications of promoting international experiences for all students, no matter their financial circumstances, also has broad support as does the EHS focus on expanding and enhancing partnerships with schools and community agencies.
Sims goal is to show EAP alumni how they can play a meaningful role in these and other efforts promoted by Dean Feyten and EAP faculty.
“Our new dean has a vision for the School that is being enthusiastically endorsed by alumni, EHS faculty, and top university officials, including President David Hodge,” says Sims. “As a result of this outpouring of support, it’s a dynamic time to be working with EHS and its alums. There’s such a feeling of excitement about what can be accomplished.”
Sims’ background in development includes serving as a donor services officer at the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and as a fundraiser for the Cincinnati Nature Center. She and her husband and two-year-old son live in West Chester.
