Welcome! Miami University and the Department of Educational Psychology is proud to now offer a series of workshops in an online blended learning format for teachers to earn full licensure as an intervention specialist for mild/moderate disabilities. The program is an 18 month alternative licensure program fully endorsed through the Ohio Department of Education and Miami University.
The participating teachers can earn 24 graduate credits. These credits, along with a current Ohio teaching license will meet the Ohio requirements for licensure upon passing PRAXIS II in special education. The state of Ohio requires that special educators must have a minimum of 12 semester hours of reading. This program will provide 6 reading credits. For secondary and specialty teachers, an additional 6 credit hours of reading may be required before obtaining special education licensure.
This is an online (distance education) program with monthly face to face seminars facilitated by university faculty and selected master teachers. Courses in the alternative licensure program will count towards a Master of Education Degree in Educational Psychology: Special Education. Participants are encouraged to seek the degree and are only required to take an additional 5 courses in order to meet the program requirements for the graduate degree in special education.
